JAMMU :A 27-year-old woman constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) died after sustaining a gunshot injury from her service rifle at a forward border post along the International Border in R S Pura sector on Wednesday.
Officials said the constable, identified as Raj Lakshmi, sustained a bullet injury at Border Out Post Sushil at around 3 PM.
She was immediately given first aid and shifted to Sub-District Hospital, R S Pura, from where she was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu for specialized treatment. However, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival, officials said.
Her body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police said it is premature to say whether it was an accidental discharge or she fired upon herself deliberately. The exact circumstances leading to the firing are being ascertained.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated in the matter, they said.
