JAMMU : Heavy rain that has been lashing Jammu since this morning has created havoc in several parts of the city.
According to reports, lanes and drains have been damaged in Roop Nagar and several other localities, while rainwater flooded the roads and entered into residential houses, causing hardships to locals.
Residents of Roop Nagar said that overflowing drains and damaged lanes led to waterlogging on roads, with water entering ground floors of houses and damaging household goods. Similar complaints were received from Janipur, Paloura, Talab Tillo, Nanak Nagar and Greater Kailash areas.
The heavy downpour since early morning has led to waterlogging at major chowks and link roads, disrupting normal vehicular movement.
As per weather department, Jammu today recorded misty conditions with temperature around 21°C and 92% humidity. The department has forecast scattered thunderstorms with 50-73% rain chances till afternoon and cloudy conditions thereafter.
The administration has appealed to people to stay indoors and avoid low-lying areas. Residents have demanded immediate de-silting of drains and restoration of damaged lanes in Roop Nagar.
