SRINAGAR :

Higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall while plains were lashed by rains on Monday-Tuesday, with the meteorological department forecasting a wet spell over the next 48 hours.

As predicted by the Meteorological Department, higher reaches of the valley received the season's first snowfall, leading to abrupt decrease in temperature.

Reports said that season's first snow was reported at *Zero Point in Sonamarg* area of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

*Razdan Pass* in Bandipora district and *Afarwat heights* in famous ski-resort *Gulmarg* also received fresh snowfall.

Meanwhile, rainfall lashed the plains of Kashmir, bringing mercury down.

Earlier, MeT had predicted light to moderate rain and snow in J&K till October 15, with no major weather activity expected till October 25.

*Weather Update for the next 10 Days:*

*13 - 15 Oct:* Under the influence of a Western Disturbance, light to moderate rain/snow showers are likely at most places across Jammu and Kashmir. *16 - 17 Oct:* Mostly fine weather is expected. A few spots (mainly in higher reaches) can receive a short shower during the afternoon/evening hours.

*18 - 22 Oct:* Dry weather is expected to dominate. A short shower at one or two spots can't be ruled out.
