KATHUA:Acting on complaints of child labour, a joint team of district administration Kathua on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection at M/s B.R. Agrotech Ltd. located at SICOP, Hatli Morh, Kathua and rescued 28 children including 18 girls allegedly working at the industrial unit.
The joint inspection team comprised Tehsildar Kathua Vikram Kumar, District Child Protection Officer Kathua Varun Kumar Choudhary, Assistant Labour Commissioner Kathua Munir Hussain along with officials from District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline, Health Department and Police.
During the inspection, all the rescued children were immediately taken to Government Hospital for medical examination. Later, all the children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Kathua for further action.
According to officials, further action regarding the children will be taken under the provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and relevant labour laws.
District administration Kathua said that the administration is committed to ensuring a child labour-free society and protecting the rights and welfare of children.
The administration also clarified that along with promoting industrial development in the district, it is mandatory for all industrial units to comply with laws and rules laid down by the government. If violation of provisions related to child labour is found, action will be taken as per law.
The district administration reiterated its resolve to take strict steps against child labour and to ensure safety, rehabilitation and welfare of every child.
