KATHUA:Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua has recovered 105 lost and stolen mobile phones worth Rs 23.50 lakh and also recovered Rs 50.43 lakh defrauded in cyber fraud cases.
According to a police spokesperson, under the supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma, IPS, the IT Section of District Police Office Kathua traced and recovered 105 mobile phones, including 9 Apple iPhones, with an estimated value of Rs 23,50,000. Complaints regarding these phones were lodged at various police stations across the district.
The team traced the handsets from multiple locations including J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh using technical assistance over the last two months. After verification and legal formalities, the phones were handed over to their rightful owners today.
Police said that during the last two years, District Police Kathua has recovered around 700 lost/stolen mobile phones with a total value of Rs 1,29,77,000.
In a parallel achievement, Cyber Police Station Kathua has recovered Rs 50,43,502 defrauded amount from May 2026 to September 2026 in multiple cyber complaints. Since its establishment, the Cyber Police Station has recovered a total of Rs 2,28,25,424 in various cyber fraud cases through prompt action, freezing of fraudulent transactions and coordination with banks and payment gateways.
District Police Kathua has appealed to the public to report lost/stolen phones immediately through http://www.ceir.gov.in and report cyber financial frauds within the golden hour by dialing 1930 or through http://www.cybercrime.gov.in.
