NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma on Friday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at New Delhi and discussed key issues related to the Union Territory.
According to details, the meeting took place at the Home Minister's office in the national capital where both leaders held detailed deliberations on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the interaction, Sharma briefed the Union Home Minister about the current security scenario, law and order situation and ongoing development works in Jammu and Kashmir. He also shared public concerns and issues being raised during the ongoing session of the J&K Legislative Assembly.
Sources said that Leader of Opposition raised the long pending demand of enhancement in the salary of Special Police Officers (SPOs) of J&K Police. He informed the Home Minister that the matter is at the final stage of approval and urged for its early clearance. SPOs have been playing a crucial role in anti-terror operations and maintaining law and order on ground level across the UT.
Sunil Sharma also highlighted various issues related to public welfare, infrastructure development and need for better coordination between the Centre and the UT administration for speedy execution of centrally sponsored schemes.
The meeting also focused on steps required to further strengthen peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir and to accelerate development initiatives in both Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during the discussion, reiterated the Central Government's commitment for peace, prosperity and overall development of Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the Union Government will continue to extend full support and cooperation in addressing genuine concerns of the people of the Union Territory.
Shah said that Centre is committed to ensure that benefits of development reach to the last person in J&K and security apparatus will be further strengthened to maintain lasting peace.
Later, Sunil Sharma expressed gratitude to the Home Minister for his guidance, support and personal intervention in matters related to security, development and welfare of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that positive outcome is expected on the issues discussed, particularly the SPO salary enhancement issue.
