Avoid night travel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway: Traffic advisory issued for Oct 12

 The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) witnessed very slow traffic movement in last 24 hours due to single lane and uneven road condition at Dawal, Udhampur and Marog-Kishtwari Pather stretch.

As per Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, from *10-10-2026, 1600 hrs to 11-10-2026, 1600 hrs*, the slow movement was observed also due to breakdown of *04 vehicles between Marog and Ramsoo* and movement of *11 nomadic herds* crossing Banihal-Nachlana.

Traffic was managed in regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur where road is single lane for about 30-40 meters.

Police said owing to ongoing movement of nomadic herds, traffic on single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwari Pather is likely to remain slow. Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.

*Advisory for General Public:*

- Passengers/LMV operators have been advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime and avoid night travel due to apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

- In view of widening work by NHAI on Digdol-Khooni Nalla axis, movement of Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers will remain restricted during daytime between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs as movement of tankers with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, movement of up tankers will be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs upto 0500 hrs.

- Goods carriers carrying fresh perishable/livestock have been advised to load as per advisory issued time to time.

- HMVs operators have been asked to desist from overloading, check fitness of vehicles and carry sufficient fuel.

- Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.

*TRAFFIC PLAN FOR 12-10-2026:*

*1. Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44):* Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs Passenger/HPVs/Private Cars/HMVs (Goods carrier) shall be allowed from both sides viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Security Forces convoys shall also be allowed from both sides after confirming status from TCU Ramban.

*2. Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244:* Subject to fair weather and green signal from NHIDCL, LMVs/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides. Vehicles shall be allowed from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle after cut-off.

*3. SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari):* As per DIVCOM Kashmir order dated 14-05-2026, LMVs shall be allowed both sides from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Minamarg towards Srinagar upto 1300 hrs after green signal. HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle after 1700 hrs. Motorists advised to carry anti-skid chains.

*4. Mughal Road (NH-701A):* Subject to fair weather and GREF clearance, LMVs followed by HMVs upto ten tyres shall be allowed both sides from Chandimarh (Baffliaz) towards Shopian and Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
