JAMMU :Jammu Police has achieved a major breakthrough by recovering stolen gold ornaments worth about Rs 50 lakh within 24 hours after the case was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
As per official details, Police Station Gandhi Nagar recovered approximately 300 grams of gold ornaments which were stolen from a bank locker of J&K Bank, Shastri Nagar Branch, Jammu.
The case dates back to September 22, 2026 when a woman lodged a complaint with Gandhi Nagar Police Station. The complainant has been identified as Harvinder Kour, wife of Harvinder Singh, resident of Ashok Nagar, Jammu.
In her complaint, she alleged that theft had taken place from her bank locker at J&K Bank, Shastri Nagar Branch. She stated that about 300 grams of gold ornaments, her original passport and other personal belongings kept in the locker were stolen.
Taking serious note of the complaint, Police Station Gandhi Nagar acted swiftly and registered a case under FIR No. 266/2026 under Section 305 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and started investigation on priority.
Soon after registration of FIR, Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Gandhi Nagar along with a team of police officials and team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) rushed to the spot and conducted detailed inspection of the place of occurrence.
The police team collected evidences, examined technical details and also used human intelligence to trace the stolen property.
With sustained and professional efforts, the police team successfully recovered the stolen gold ornaments weighing approximately 300 grams, whose market value is stated to be around Rs 50 lakh, within 24 hours of registration of case.
Officials said that the recovery was made possible due to prompt action, coordinated efforts and effective utilisation of technical and human resources by Gandhi Nagar Police.
The investigation of the case is being carried out under the supervision of SDPO South Jammu and SP South Jammu, with overall guidance of SSP Jammu.
Police officials said that further investigation in the case is going on and more facts will come to fore after detailed questioning.
Meanwhile, the complainant has expressed relief and gratitude to Jammu Police for quick recovery of her costly ornaments.
The swift action of Jammu Police has been widely appreciated by locals, who said that recovery of such huge quantity of gold within 24 hours shows professionalism and efficiency of Gandhi Nagar Police.
Police have appealed people to remain vigilant about their valuables and immediately report any such incident to nearest police station.
